Heaviness / Pretending

John Chestnut Sr Park, Palm Harbor, FL

Why is it so

Fucking

Hard

Sometimes

To make the world suck

A little less?

Head filled with politics of separation,

Failed romances,

And even bigger failed grants,

I have a

Heaviness in my heart

Right now

One that can only be fixed

By wide open skies

And birdsong

Hellos to random strangers

Slow walks

Sun

Calm waters

And so many shades of green

Have all helped, too

You only get a few short years

Where pretending

Is socially acceptable

Today,

Iā€™m pretending

To be a poet
