A poem and a prayer?

What is it?

Not all poems are prayers

But are they?

Are all prayers

Simply a form of holy poetry?

But are not all poems

About reverence

In one way or another?

Is every poem I write

A prayer

To the place where it was written?

The poem pouring into my head

Alongside

The rustling of the leaves on the wind

My footsteps

Hitting the dry, cracked earth

Walking over a wooden path

Oddly lined in metal wire

Between the tall trees

Among the exuberant birdsong.

Is it not a prayer

The moment I stop

To listen?
